Arsenal hero Ian Wright has shared a social media update after being involved in a car accident on his way to film Match of the Day on Saturday. Wright was seemingly in a car crash on the M56 on his way to Salford from London to film the hit BBC show.

On Saturday afternoon, Wright posted a smiley selfie in gloomy weather on the motorway, with the heavily damaged front of his car in the background.

He tweeted: “Not a straightforward trip up for @BBCMOTD! Thankfully nobody was hurt. Be careful out there, lots of water on the road.

“Thank you to my amazing driver Jay and the brilliant emergency services. See you tonight.”

It seems like, despite the worrying incident, Wright plans to join Gary Lineker and Co. to review the day’s Premier League action in the studio at MediaCityUK.

Wright received hundreds of well-wishes in response to his Twitter post, including one from fellow Premier League legend Alan Shearer.

Fellow MOTD presenter Shearer’s light-hearted tweet read: “Jeez. And you made it in time to see the Toon score.”

His words suggest Wright was embroiled in the accident on Saturday morning or early afternoon, as the United Kingdom has been left broken, battered and bruised by Storm Eunice.

Extreme wind and rain have caused mass damage across the nation in recent days, and a gust of 122mph at the Needles on the Isle of Wight was the highest ever recorded in England.
