But while Howe is keen to reinforce his frontline before his side’s relegation six pointer against Watford, Newcastle potential options are not limited to the Frenchman.
Ekitike is believed to be one of six potential strikers on Newcastle’s shortlist which includes Bournemouth and Howe’s past signing Dominic Solanke, Euro 2020 and Bayer Leverkusen star Patrick Schick, Burnley hitman Chris Wood, Liverpool’s Divock Origi, and Iranian star Sardar Azmoun of Zenit St Petersburg.
Howe was the man who brought Solanke to the South Coast during his time with the Cherries, while Schick would be the most expensive signing of the lot as Leverkusen allegedly value him at around £50m.
The Magpies are yet to make a firm approach for Wood, but their chances of signing Origi were boosted when reports from Sky Sports claimed the striker would prefer a move to the Premier League.
Howe’s options up front are so short that he may even consider signing two strikers in the transfer window, as elaborated by the report.
